Creating a Culture of Empathy
How Digital Deployment uses their work to create positive change.
Founded in 2004, Digital Deployment is a leading provider of websites and platforms for local government and organizations that impact communities. Being located in heart of Sacramento, they have seen the region’s huge growth and many changes.
They have been recognized for their workplace culture being named one of the Best Places to Work in Sacramento [paywall], Small Business of the Year, as well as for their strides in online accessibility. They also have been a partner of United Way’s for many years now with our website hosting and design creation. Since then, they have become a Small Business Partner.
What is your stance on creating a philanthropic or a caring company culture?
We are strongly committed to being an active part of our community and developing a culture of empathy—which, unfortunately, is uncommon in the tech space. We have participated in United Way’s Day of Caring and other great programs.
Why do you believe volunteering is important for your company and your staff?
Being part of something greater than ourselves is an important opportunity—not only does it increase moral and staff retention (for those bottom-line folks) it also allows the team to bond in a less formal setting. Last time we volunteered with United Way, we ended up landing a new client!
What are some ways that your company has been able to act or think big while still being small, particularly in your industry?
We try to think globally but act locally. We’ve been inspired by the B-Corporation movement and have attended conscious capitalism and other conferences for new ideas. We don’t believe that doing good and doing well are opposing values, especially if we want to create sustainable value.
